Consumer Use and End-of-Life

Apparel and Footwear Built to Last

All VF brand products are manufactured to meet the highest standards of workmanship using the best quality materials. With proper care and handling, they are designed for years of active life.

36000Our design teams take great care in developing long-lasting, eco-friendly products.

We encourage our consumers to review the cleaning and care instructions included with every item we make and sell. Following these instructions will often extend the useful life of the item. Footwear that is treated against water saturation and stains, kept clean and properly stored between uses will sustain many years of use. When it comes to apparel, consumers can increase their own energy and resource efficiencies by washing only full loads of laundry, using cooler water temperatures and avoiding the use of a hot dryer. Fleece garments in particular will air-dry within a few hours when placed on a hanger. These measures save energy and water, while also helping to prolong the product’s life.

36001The Eagle Creek® brand covers all luggage under their lifetime warranty guarantee.

The Eagle Creek® brand covers workmanship and materials against defect for the entire life of any item in its travel luggage line. When the brand receives a defective piece of luggage or accessory covered under its warranty, the Eagle Creek® brand will repair or replace it with a product of similar features and value and ship it back to the customer at no charge.

The Eagle Creek® brand also offers a “No Matter What Warranty” on several of its luggage lines with the added insurance of repair or replacement due to damage, regardless of the cause. The Eagle Creek® brand directs customers with defective luggage to one of its regional, licensed repair centers and also offers spare parts through its website.

Still, we recognize that every VF product will eventually reach the end of its useful life. When this happens, consumers have several choices – some of which are more sustainable than others.

We discourage our consumers from simply throwing away our products. Because they contain raw materials that can be recycled for years of added use, our goal is to divert these materials away from landfills.

In 2013, The North Face® brand launched Clothes the Loop, an apparel and footwear recycling initiative. Through Clothes the Loop, consumers are invited to recycle old and worn-out clothing or footwear at participating retail stores in exchange for a coupon. It is a win-win for both the environment and consumers: clothes are either reused or recycled instead of ending up in a landfill and consumers are able to purchase new items at a reduced cost. Building off its initial success, Clothes the Loop was expanded to 27 stores in early 2014.
