Our Approach to Environmental Sustainability

By dedicating ourselves to using the earth’s resources efficiently and thoughtfully, VF will remain competitive in a resource-conscious marketplace and will help to ensure future generations live in a cleaner, healthier world.

VF is one of the largest apparel and footwear companies in the world, with more than 30 brands, 60,000+ associates and a multifaceted supply chain that manufactures close to 500 million products each year.

With this scale comes responsibility. We recognize that we impact economies, communities and ecosystems on a local, regional and global level. VF’s approach is to clearly understand the effects we have, proactively address those impacts and relentlessly seek ways to improve ourselves and our global industry. Our consumers, customers, associates and communities demand no less.

In 2011, we identified and assessed those areas in our value chain where we have significant levels of control or influence. From manufacturing and shipping our products to lighting our stores and running our offices, our business operations require a significant amount of energy and water, and they also generate waste. Because of this, we have chosen to focus on energy, water and waste.

20000VF is constantly looking at new, innovative ways to reduce our environmental impacts.

The VF team is in the early stages of our efforts, but we are making progress. We have company-wide strategies in place, and in 2014, we are implementing several new processes to reduce our environmental footprint. Some of our brands and functional areas have already made impressive strides on their own. Still, as a company, VF has a responsibility to align sustainable and responsible best practices and goals across all of our brands.

In the section that follows, we discuss the actions we have taken within our direct operations, and how we use our influence throughout our value chain to make the greatest possible difference.
